The Gold team fought hard continually, but in the end lost 27 - 30. Carlie Kauffman earned offensive player of the game again with a team high of 12 points. Mikayla Kuehne and Eleanor Burnett played a great defensive game, picking up 7 steals combined and forcing turnovers for Prosper’s team. Alex Coleman was the team’s overall player showing leadership, drive and perserverence. The White team pulled out a close victory winning 19 - 18. Kenzie Muniz was among the top players for the night, scoring 6 points for the Dowell Lionettes. Myah Bowen led the team in defense hustling down on both sides of the court. Tia Fields, also scoring 6 points, earned overall player of the game playing both ends of the court with poise under pressure and showing lots of leadership qualities. The Lionettes’ next match will take place against Highland Park M.S. at Dowell M.S. The Blue team will take the court first at 5:00pm, followed by the Gold and White teams. the Lionettes’ Blue team struggled, dropping the game 6 - 26 against Prosper Middle School Monday night. Even with tough play from all the players, Prosper kept pulling away. Danielle Boggs, who scored a team high of 4 points, earned offensive player of the game. Gretchen Omholt had overall great defensive game and CeCe Clark with overall good defense and constant drives to the hole was the team’s overall player.
In the second game of the season, the Lionettes’ Blue team lost momentum, dropping the game 9-18 against Faubion Middle School Monday night. The game wasn’t a total lost garnering tough play from Mariah Kelty, who scored a team high of 5 points. Rylie Simmons had a great defensive game, chipping in a total of 8 rebounds and Sarah Malakoff improving her game, was the team’s overall player with great plays on both ends of the court. The Gold team came out strong again, proving to be the better of the Lionnettes’ winning 35-14. The game’s top players included Carlie Kauffman as offensive player of the game again with a whopping team high of 18 points and 5 blocks. Celia Hilsabeck played a great defensive game, picking up 2 steals and forcing turnovers for Faubion’s team. Gabi Symmank was the team’s overall player making an appearance in every stat column for points, steals, assists, blocks, and rebounds. The White team pulled out a close victory winning 6-5. Rebecca Groskopf was among the top players for the night, scoring the game winning basket for the Dowell Lionettes. Mary Carson Johnson earned overall player of the game playing both ends of the court with poise under pressure. Tia Fields led them team in defense rebounding on both sides of the court. The Lionettes’ next match will take place against Evans M.S. at Dowell M.S. The Blue team will take the court first at 5:15pm, followed by the Gold and White teams. In the opening game of the season, the Lionettes’ Blue eeked out a win against Johnson Middle School. Top performing players included Cecilia Clark and Rylie Simmons for co-defensive players of the game; Mariah Kelty with a great offensive game scoring 8 points for her team, earning offensive player and Yesenia Casas providing leadership and the spark needed for the Lionette’s to hold onto their victory. The Gold team came out strong, pouncing on the Tigers in the first couple of quarters to set the tone. Struggling a bit to keep the lead the entire game, it was in the second half that Dowell was able to pull away with a sure victory. The game’s top players included Carlie Kauffman as offensive player of the game – scoring a team high of 10 points for her team, Gabi Symmank playing tenacious defense that resulted in multiple steals and fastbreaks, and Alex Coleman for overall player of the game, scoring 6 points and dishing out assists for her team. The White team surprised most by winning in convincing fashion to end the night’s games. a force, winning a two-set match to cap off the night. Isabel Pate was among the top players for the night, earning overall player of the game with 6 steals and 8 points. Mary Carson Johnson earned offensive player honors, finishing the night off with 10 points for her team and Sydney Tarsi played outstanding defense, seemingly finding herself in a position to steal and go from end to end on fastbreak opportunities.
