sports year at Dowell!! What GREAT results from hard working athletes! Top 3 finishes in the district meets
this year! Wow!! We have a very competitive middle school district! Eight schools to compete with and
Dowell Athletes rose to the challenge! We had so many 2 and 3 sport athletes grinding away this spring to
be their very best and work hard for one another! Strong Competitive Spirit!!!! Teamwork!!! Success!!!

Athletes need an Athletic Physical to participate this summer and next school year. If your athlete has not yet
taken a physical, make sure you have a MISD Pink Physical Form for 2017-18 when you go to the doctor to get
checked out. Summer PC and summer camps are still taking enrollment.
We are still getting our weight room sessions every week. To become stronger, quicker, more endurance, and
confidence is so essential for athletes. Good, Better, Best!!! Conditioning is still in workouts as well. Maintaining
every part of training just builds better athletes. Our DMS Athletes play so many sports outside of school – we want
them to be successful and in top form outside to school too! Athletes are doing great!!
8th grade Beach Bash is May 22nd. 8th grade walk is May 30th.

Our MISD Athletic Words of the Week: Self Image-Concept. Coaches visited with athletes about self
worth and building their self image by trying their best and being their best in all situations. Being
seen as good and knowing your doing the right thing builds confidence and strength.

Dowell Tennis took a short trip to Prosper to compete against Prosper Reynolds this past Tuesday and
returned with a 14 – 2 victory. Court coverage and ball placement were strong points for Dowell!
Dowell Tennis will compete in the North Texas Middle School District Tennis Tournament on Monday
and Tuesday, April 24th and 25th. The final competition of this season. This will be held at McKinney
Boyd High School Tennis Facility. 4:00pm start both days.
Dowell Track is competing in the North Texas Middle School District Track Meet today and Monday
at Ron Poe Stadium in McKinney. This is the final meet for our track teams. Eight middle schools will
compete in this 2 day event. Running events are today and field events are on Monday, April 24th.

This week at Dowell has been so good! Our DMS Tennis Team went undefeated on Tuesday
evening vs. Cockrill ! The Tennis Team really played well in doubles, mixed doubles, and our
singles matches! Improvements all over the courts! Our Track Teams run in the MISD City Meet
this evening and judging from the talent and efforts displayed the past few weeks - McKinney ISD
has many great athletes headed to our three high schools! Dowell has many multi-sport athletes
(as well as CMS, EMS, FMS, JMS) continuing to compete in track and field - building their spirit and
Pep Rally today to honor our DMS Special Olympics Athletes and our DMS Tennis and Track Athletes.
Special time for all these athletes! DMS Cheerleaders & DMS Fine Arts Groups will really get the Spirit
of Dowell flowing throughout the building! What a great afternoon it will be at Dowell!!!

Dowell Tennis was OUTSTANDING this past Tuesday vs. Highland Park. We made a strong late
rally to come from behind to defeat HP! Showed some grit in our singles action to pull us ahead
of HP and then held on for the victory! We will take on Cockrill on Tuesday, April 11th @ Boyd
with a 4:30pm start. Wear that Dowell T-shirt and come out and support DMS Tennis!
Dowell Track competed in the Evans Quad Meet @ Ron Poe yesterday evening. Our 7th and 8th
Girls and Boys had an AWESOME evening with multiple 1st place finishes and an abundance of
2nd’s and 3rd’s. Our Track and Field Athletes have made great strides through 3 meets! The next meet
is our MISD City Meet at Ron Poe. All 5 MISD Middle Schools will compete to claim a City Championship.

We have 2017-18 MISD Athletic Physical Forms (Pink Form) available and all athletes should have a form

What a week at Dowell! STAAR Testing 2 days, track and tennis pictures, workouts, stormy weather,
track meet @ Princeton…kids have been great through it all! Coaches are so excited about our DMS

8th Boys won the 8th boys division, DMS 8th Girls earned a 3rd place finish and our 7th boys earned a 6th
place finish and our 7th girls competed well - improving each meet. Track Teams will compete again
on April 6th @ Ron Poe 4:00pm start. Great Dowell Crowd @ Princeton cheering on our Tracksters!! :)
Dowell Tennis did not play this week but will compete again next Tuesday, April 4th vs. Highland Park
@ Boyd 4:30pm start This match will be very competitive! Wear your Dowell Spirit shirt and come cheer
on our Girls and Boys Tennis Team! Hope to see you there!
We will have a Tennis/Track Pep Rally on April 13th in the Dowell Gym. Great support for our
spring sports athletes! Fun time for all the DMS Student Body! Dowell Cheerleaders will fire up the Dowell
Spirit throughout the building! This whole day will be lively @ Dowell!
Our 2017-18 Physical Forms have arrived. Coaches will hand our the Pink form to all the athletes
today. Physicals for next year can be done April 1st, 2017 and beyond.

This has been another great week for Dowell! Dowell Tennis is setting the bar high for
our Spring Sports! Dowell Tennis made this past Monday really great with a win over
Faubion at the Boyd Tennis Facilities. We played really well! We have had two great
tennis outings and are looking forward to more victories! No Tennis match next week
with STARR Testing at DMS.
Dowell Track hosted a quad meet on Thursday evening at Ron Poe Stadium. Our first
meet this spring. Evans, Faubion, Johnson competed with us to get the 2017 Track
Season started. DMS 8th Grade Boys took first place in 9 of the 11 running events and
3 of the 6 field events. 7th Grade Boys took first place in 4 events. 8th Girls with six 1st
place finishes and four 2nd’s. 7th Girls with two 1st place and two 2nd’s. GREAT MEET!!
Next meet is in Princeton on Thursday night. Track Picture Day is March 29th @ Dowell

Dowell Tennis started us off right after our spring break by defeating Prosper Rogers at the Boyd
Tennis Facility this past Tuesday. Girls and Boys looked good for the the first match of the spring
and after the break. Exciting to see our DMS Tennis players compete so strongly to open up the
season! I believe we’ll only get better. Great start Tennis!!

Our athletes are really developing strong commitments and a natural by-product of this is hard
work. They take responsibility for their training. They put in a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to be

I’m so optimistic about our spring sports and our athletes who compete in them. They have done
some excellent work so far! Their confidence is strong! They have made some mistakes but have
not given up and really have responded with positivity and courage. Coaches have talked about
mistakes – it will happen – they remind athletes that mistakes are temporary and changeable . Just
refocus, don’t worry, give it your best! They are making a difference!
Have a great spring break with your athlete! We’ll start up again March 13th – fully energized and
ready to attack the weight room/courts/track and field!
Wow! What a great week of Dowell Athletics! Tennis Tryouts/Track workouts have awesome
numbers in each sport! Competitive spirits all week! We are stronger, quicker, faster for

our DMS Tennis Parent Meeting is Feb. 28th @ 6:00pm in the DMS Cafeteria.
Track Workouts will begin after school next week – starting Monday, Feb. 27th. Parents can
pick up their track athletes at 5:15pm Track Parent Meeting is Tuesday, Feb. 28th 6:00pm in
the DMS Main Gym.
The end of our 3rd Quarter of school and UIL Pass/Fail Grade Check is March 3rd. Athletes must
be passing all classes by the end of the day on March 3rd. Tennis and Track Coaches are already
reminding the athletes about making sure all their work is in and grades are their best! Our DMS
Teachers are always available to tutor athletes or help out in any way.
