Off season is off and running and lifting!!! We are working the kiddos hard and they are responding to what we ask them to do. It is our goal to make them a better "athlete" with the drills, weights, agility, and running that is planned in our workouts. Dress out is still expected with GRAY SHIRTS and BLUE SHORTS!! We will be outside everyday unless our the weather does not allow us to be under our cold weather policy. They may bring sweats (color doesn't matter) but they will need them so they can have them, just in case. We will be testing in off-season this upcoming week as well. we want to get the athletes a starting point of where they are now and monitor the progress over the rest of the year for growth in every aspect of athletics. We will be testing in the 300 meter shuttle run, 40 meter dash, Pro-Agility drill, bench, and squat. This is a great time for the kids because it allows them to see the progress that they make from the hard work they put into their workouts.
DRESS OUT IS REQUIRED EVERYDAY!!!!
Basketball season has arrived here at Dowell Middle School!!! It is off to a fast and furious pace. The players, coaches, and fans are ready to see some exciting BBall action. With tryouts over and done with and behind us the Lions teams played in the annual MISD Preview right after Thanksgiving Break. That was good for the players and coaches to see where they are in respect for getting prepared for the upcoming season. Teams were divided and it was time to do battle with District play early. Cockrill and Reynolds were the first 2 opponents of the year; with a B team tourney right in the middle of those 2 big early games. The teams seemed to be settling into their roles and they know what is expected of them. The upcoming Collin County Hoopfest is this Friday and Saturday for the "A" team. Dowell Middle School will be part host to this tourney. It is being played in multiple gyms in Frisco and in McKinney. It should be an exciting weekend of basketball. Both 7th & 8th grade Boys play here at Dowell. They both play play at 6:00pm on Friday. 8th Grade plays in the Main gym while the 7th grade plays in the Auxiliary Gym. I look forward to the upcoming basketball season. It should be a fun and exciting season!!
It is hard to believe how fast this year is going. it seems like yesterday we were starting football, cross country, & volleyball at 6:45 and now turn around and basketball try outs are winding down. Teams of 32 will be made at days end. Some will be excited to begin their next adventure and to conquer what adversity may occur in their basketball season; while others will have an opportunity to sharpen their skills for next year's try outs outside of the school realm at PSA, club or even HS basketball. Either way I know our athletes will work hard to get Bigger Stronger, and Faster to become that better overall athlete.
Off season program will be in full swing after the break as well. We will be getting the young ladies and young men into shape with different running distances, agility drills, movement, jump ropes, and weight lifting. We ask the athletes remember the proper dress code is BLUE SHORTS & GRAY SHIRT!! We will be going outside so it is very important that each athlete have sweat in their lockers (colors do not matter for these) as long as there is a gray shirt and blue shorts underneath when we go to the weight-room. we will also be offering a LONG SLEEVE workout shirt as well. It is the Dri-Fit material just as the others but in a long sleeve version. The long sleeve shirt with be offered to the boys for $12. Oder forms are on the athletic table by coaches office.
I wanted to take this time before break to say a huge THANK YOU to our outstanding ATHLETIC BOOSTER CLUB for doing so much for us already this year. Ya'll are amazing!! You have set the bar high for the next year's group of members to come in and follow your lead. (which we need volunteers for some positions in the ABC - - - - so think about helping out in some type of leadership capacity). All of the celebrations have been amazing. Good food, good eats and good friendship made or made stronger. It takes a village to run an athletic program and to keep up with al the demands of it. Y'all do that each and everytime we come to you with either a purchase or to cover the concessions.
Parents, Coaches, Administration, & Staff - THANK YOU for making my transition into being the new coordinator at Dowell Middle School so easy. It hasn't all been easy BUT we kept plugging at it and found out solutions. It makes my job easy when i have colleagues and people to work along side who are willing to work together as a team and not individuals. It will not always be easy but I, we, as a TEAM will work hard to keep Dowell where it is today. that being the BEST middle school in the area!!l

Last night the 7th Grade Football Dowell Lions B Team played against the Highland Park Raiders at Mckinney Boyd High School. The Lions struggled to put a successful offensive series most of the game. Big plays would be made by the lions to give them a fighting chance. Ryan Johnson had an interception. Randal Ondara made a big stop for a loss defensively. Hudson Boring would connect with Kaden Glenn on 10 yd pass for a Touchdown. However, it would not be enough to put the Raiders away, giving the B team their first loss of the season.
Last night the 7th Grade Football Dowell Lions A Team played against the Highland Park Raiders at Mckinney Boyd High School. The lions seem to have trouble finding a rhythm offensively all night. The only score to be made all night would be on a 65 yard pass from Ke'maur Johnson to Mason Saad late in the 4th quarter. But the Raiders offense was too much for the Lions all night giving them the loss. Defensive standouts for the lions were Hayder Alnasri, Joseph Fambro, Matthew Orbagosa, Ben Poder and Colby Farmer.
