8th Grade
The Dowell Lionettes 8th grade volleyball teams played Cockrill Middle School at McKinney Boyd on Thursday, Sept. 28th and earned their second SWEEP of the season!
The Blue “B” team won in two games with scores of 25-15 and 25-17. Middle Blocker, Allie Zarbaugh, had a strong night on the service line, earning her team 10 points from shanks and kills off of her hard serves. Setter and Right Side Hitter, Gigi Miller also had a strong night at the service line but really stepped up for her team with 5 great saves and her ability to communicate on the court. Outside Hitters, Mackenzie Coop and Riley Hostetter played well on the offensive side of the net with 4 kills each. Way to work ladies!
The Gold “A” team knocked the boots off of the Cockrill Cowgirls by dominating in a two game win with scores of 25-18 and 25-8. Setter, Claire Russell started her team off right by serving 8 points in a row in game 1. She would go on to earn her team a total of 12 points from the service line throughout the two game match. Defensive Specialists, Macy Parker and Bella Vaught had great defensive games with over 27 saves and numerous perfect passers into their setter’s hands. Middle Blockers, Kira Thornton and Avery Calame put up a solid performance on the net with two big blocks each to shut down the Cowgirl’s offense. These girls owned the gym floor at McKinney Boyd!
Closing out the evening, the White “C” team won in their FIRST two game sweep, 25-20 and 25-23! Defensive Specialist, Landry Edwards had 8 great serves, including 4 aces. Middle Blocker, Natalie Burrell also had a strong showing at the service line and contributed to the offense with 2 kills. Setter and Right Side Hitter, Allison Lane had a great night offensively, racking up several assists to hitters on the front row as well as 2 kills of her own. This team is really working together well and getting stronger every week!
The next game is AWAY next Thursday, October 5th, against Prosper Reynolds Middle School This should be a great game so we hope to see some fans in the stands at Prosper! One Heart, One Team, LIONETTES!

The Dowell Lionettes seventh grade volleyball teams played Cockrill Middle School on September 28.
The Blue “B” team had a tough loss to Cockrill. Outstanding servers of the game were Jacqueline Cape, Tiffany Adams and Sophia Ricci with one ace serve each. Keep working hard!
The Gold “A” team lost a rough fight to Cockrill in two games. Setter Reagan Brown served 7 points in a row! Alex Heins and Presleigh Morris each had two ace serves. Middle blocker Holland Hannon had a kill and a tip at the net. Stay strong team!
Closing out the evening, the White “C” team had an exciting first game, losing 29-30 but sadly didn’t win the second game. Outstanding server of the game was Kathryn Huggins with 8 points, including 5 aces! Montserrat Donadio served 2 ace serves. Cambri Stone had some great setting moves and reflexes to quick plays on the court. Way to work hard!
