National Junior Honor Society is a service-minded organization for 7th and 8th graders, which strives to promote leadership and citizenship skills within its members. Membership in NJHS is granted after careful consideration of applications by our membership committee. This membership is the highest honor that the school can bestow on a student, because it acknowledges excellence; not just in one activity, but in all. Students are invited to join NJHS after they have exhibited these standards of excellence: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Citizenship and Character. NJHS students are our future community leaders and, as such, are expected to be positive role models to their peers, as well as to others. NJHS members understand the importance of "doing what's right, because it's right," and strive to model this, both on and off the Dowell Middle School campus.
Announcements:
Excellent January Meeting! The NJHS students have decided to work on two projects. One will focus on "goody bags" for our students that remain virtual. The other involves collecting blankets, along with making "care packages" for our homeless population. These will be donated in April, and we will begin collecting the donated items in February. However, if you would like to start collecting now, here are the items we will be requesting: band-aids, disposable masks, Q-tips, toothpaste/toothbrush, hand sanitizer, "Chapstick" brand chapstick (black tube), small container of mints or individually wrapped peppermints, tissues, small Neosporin, and socks (black/gray/white, crew or ankle). Please know that the "travel size" of these items would be greatly appreciated. We will have more info to follow, but again, feel free to begin collecting now. All items can be stored in G215.
Our February meeting has been moved to February 23rd, due to students being off on the original date (Feb. 16).
Keep checking Remind. This has been a wonderful tool for communicating. See you next month!
